Do you Qualify to work for SYGW?


Youth Gardener/ Crew Member positions at SYGW work in our garden sites in Seattle, growing flowers and produce that you sell at the Farmer’s Markets. You get to meet great people and work outdoors. We would love to have you as part of our great program. Depending on which season you work with us, here is what you will get:

  • Minimum wage working as many as 15 hours per week.
  • A share of the profits from market sales.
  • Great skills including: Job skills, business skills, a resume for future jobs
  • Science Education (you can even get a school science credit!)
  • A sense of accomplishment and pride.

We are now hiring for summer crew which will be July 1st-August 22nd.  Summer crew will work Tuesday through Friday 9-5 and occasional farmers markets on Saturday.  Download and apply using the summer crew application below. Apply for either our Summer crew by filling out an application and mailing it in or call us at (206) 635-0352.  Applications are due by March 18, 2008.

Who Qualifies
In order to qualify you must:

  • Be 14-21 years old
  • Qualify as underserved or homeless.  Seattle Youth Garden Works uses a number of factors to determine crew member eligibility including if you or your family currently receives SSI, TANF, food stamps and/or free or reduced school lunch, if you are living in a shelter, transitional housing, staying with friends temporarily or on the street.  Also if you have a criminal record or history of gang affiliation, are significantly behind in school or are in foster care you might be eligible.
