Site Specific Description:
The team member will work in YouthCare’s Straley House. It is a program that provides transitional shelter to 12 homeless young adults. It is a residential program with a maximum of a 6 month stay. Residents living in the program are expected to be working towards positive outcomes on their self-identified goals, including skills that will help them gain independence. The member will be supporting these residents with their success in the program as well as their transition toward independence.
Position Responsibilities:
The Activities coordinator’s main responsibility is to create a monthly activities calendar with a variety of activities both in and out of the house. Activities should include art, health education, sports, outdoor ed, etc. This member will also plan and coordinate special events in the program such as for birthdays and holidays.
The team member will also be expected to aid in the development of life skills classes. Life skills can include anything from cooking to applying for housing to interviewing for a job. The team member will be expected to co-facilitate a weekly community meeting where all the residents will get together and dialogue about the house and the community, as well as participate in life skills activities.
The team member will be expected to be on time for all shifts, to communicate needs and concerns with the program manager, and to help as needed with the daily staff responsibilities that keep the program safe and functioning. The team member will work closely with the program manager and the life skills coordinator to accomplish their responsibilities and receive supervision. There are 2 mandatory weekly meetings, our staff meeting on Wednesday (2-4) and our community meeting for residents on Sunday (10am-12pm).
Hours of Service:
This position will have flexible hours based on activities, group schedules, and events. Some evening and weekend work will be required because the facility is open and staffed 24 hours a day.
