Seattle Youth Garden Works is a non-profit organization dedicated to educating and employing homeless and underserved youth in a farm to market organic garden.  We serve youth ages 14-21.  Through our program we seek to assist the youth we serve in their pursuit of housing, healthcare, education, permanent employment, and community.

 

Time Commitment: Approx. 16.5 hours/week from June 23-August 30, 2008

-Tuesdays (9:00am-2:00pm)-in the garden

-Wednesday (9:30am-2:00pm-in the garden

-Fridays (9:30am-4:30pm)-in the garden

(August 23-August 30: hours will be limited)

 

Goal: To create a safe, stable, and educational environment for homeless, street-involved, and underserved youth in an organic garden setting.

 

Responsibilities: The garden education intern assists the Urban Farm and Youth Employment Manager in a mentoring role, while working in the garden.  The garden education intern also helps to execute the daily curriculum and manage the daily garden tasks of the youth, while acting as a positive role model for the youth.  It is important that the garden education intern exhibits appropriate work behavior (punctuality, on-task, engages with youth).   Finally, the garden education intern assists in planning the daily schedule, while helping with any needs that might arise during the program.
