SYGW Wins 2005 Flower and Garden Show

We are thrilled to have been awarded the prestigious Founder's Cup, the American Horticulture Society Environmental Award and the Gold Level Award for our display garden at the 2005 Northwest Flower & Garden Show! Our theme this year - "Urban Land Use and Food Security" - beautifully demonstrates the ability of an urban garden to yield amazing amounts of produce.

Our Display Garden Statement:
Urban agriculture is: city greenbelts, community vegetable plots on inner-city lots and household gardens. The demand for fresh, local, organic food creates a market for urban food production. In addition, intensive urban gardening promotes social justice, community economic development and environmental stewardship. Our garden creates an oasis for the human spirit, provide both valuable nutrition and  place to connect with the Earth. Each design element supplies nourishing food and other harvestable materials. The urban garden is a place where people gather, breathe, eat and grow a place for community.
