Greetings from the Garden:
Strengthening our foundation. That’s how we classify 2008 – we see big changes in our future (check out “A New Season of Growth” inside), and 2008 was the year we started to build the beds and lay the groundwork for them. Success rates in our garden education program improved in every aspect, from increased housing opportunities to improved job skills. You can read a note from a grateful parent inside to learn more about one life SYGW touched this year!
Partnerships like those with the University District Service Providers Alliance, University of Washington Botanic Gardens, City of Seattle, Human Services Department, Summer Youth Employment Program, Neighborhood Farmers Market Alliance, Washington Park Arboretum, Marra Farm Coalition and the AmeriCorps/Washington Service Corps abounded, increasing our ability to empower youth to be self sufficient.
In 2008, we achieved financial stability and ended the fiscal year with a small surplus, thanks to our committed, caring donors and volunteers.
In fact, every success in 2008 was due to the support of our community, and you are a big part of that group: thank you! You make it possible for Seattle Youth Garden Works to positively impact the lives of youth we have the honor to serve, and for that, we are very grateful.
